Con Tips and Tricks

Our goal here at NERE 2009 is to make your con experience as enjoyable as possible. We're slowly putting together some tips & tricks that may help, especially if we are your first con.

• No special friends in public places -
  Please make security's life easier; go to a hotel room and don't be the post-con story.
• Shower at least once a day -
  The rest of the con-goers will appreciate it and you will make more friends.
• Get at least 4-5 hours of sleep a night -
  This will help fight off any inevitable germs you might be exposed to and will make it so you can stay up late all of the nights rather than just one.
• Eat at least one good vitamin-rich meal a day -
  You will be able to stay up later because you'll have more energy and this also fights the inevitable con-crud, as does taking your vitamins.
• Drink water -
  You will stay hydrated and energized, which lets you stay up later and also will keep you healthier post con.
• Use hand sanitizer and wash your hands often -
  Someone will have a cold at the con and Cammies like to share, so this will help keep away any germs.
• Remember that we are not the only ones at the hotel -
  The hotel has other customers, so being quiet when going down the halls late at night is appreciated by the hotel staff and con security.
• Remember your room number -
  Most card systems shut a room card down if you try it on multiple incorrect doors and it also bothers the room occupants if they are already asleep and you are trying their door.
• The hotel has a bar -
  Please remember that the hotel does appreciate us using their bar to buy our booze, but please keep your inebriation to a socially acceptable level.
• Bring more cash than you need -
  The hotel ATM will run out of cash and then you will be stuck when the vendor you're talking to is having an issue with their card reader.
• If you are a smoker, put your cigarette out -
  At almost every con, someone sets an ashtray on fire, so please don't be that person.
• Be walkway courteous -
  We understand that you're excited to see a friend you haven't seen for ages, but the people behind you are now stuck in a traffic jam.
• Avoid using the elevator if you can -
  After every venue is called, the elevators are going to be jam packed and you will not want to be that close to other people that have been gaming in layers of costuming for hours.
• Make sure you have all your costuming when you leave-
  Four cammies in one room with enough costuming for each venue each day will equate to a lot of clothes and props, so please be mindful of your roommates when tossing your clothes around the room as it makes it harder to pack at the end of the con and checkout comes earlier than you ever think.
• Tip housekeeping -
  They have to deal with the aftermath of hurricane cammie in each of the rooms after we leave.
• Oh no, you've forgotten something! -
  If you've forgotten anything at home, please take a look at the Area Interests as it may list a store that can help you out.
• Have fun!!!! -
  No matter what, cons are for us to have fun at, so leave the drama behind and enjoy the hobby!
